Overview & Materials

Teach in predictable blocks: phonics + writing, math, language. Use concrete → pictorial → abstract and mix partner turns to keep attention high.

• Materials: blend/digraph cards (bl, cl, sh, ch), word cards, sentence strips, ruled copy/slates, 100 chart, counters/ten-frames, pattern blocks, story picture cards.
• Routine: review → new input → guided practice → quick check → praise.
• Grouping: whole-class mini-lesson; rotate small groups for targeted practice.
• Rules: eyes on, soft voices, tidy-up signal, “ask a friend first.”

Phonics & Writing (Blends, Digraphs, Sentences)

Link sound to print, then lock it with quick writing reps and tiny sentences.

1. Warm-up (2–3 min): quick-fire sounds and 3 blend cards (e.g., bl, cl, st).
2. Teach (5 min): one focus (e.g., sh). Sort picture cards “yes/no” for the sound.
3. Blend & Segment (5 min): chips for sh-ip, fi-sh, shu-t; push to read, pull to segment.
4. Write (6 min): sky–grass–ground lines; 3 neat words + one sentence (e.g., “I can ship it.”).
5. Quick check (1–2 min): 3 words on board; thumbs-up if you hear the target; copy 1 best word.

Math (Number Sense to 100)

Move from hands-on to symbols. Keep turns short so everyone handles materials.

• Count/Show: 0–100 with 100 chart; whisper-skip 2s/5s/10s.
• Make & Compare: tens/ones with bundles or rods; more/less/same.
• Add/Subtract: within 20 using counters/number line jumps.
• Shapes/Patterns: revise 2D shapes; build AB/ABC/AAB; describe rule.

Mini Sequence (10–12 min)

1. Show a number on the 100 chart; students build it with tens/ones.
2. Quick add/sub problem using counters; record equation.
3. Pattern build race; explain the pattern aloud.

Stories & Rhymes (Language & Recall)

Daily language grows vocabulary, order words, and confidence to speak.

• Picture walk: preview 4–6 images; predict key words and actions.
• Echo & Act: teacher says lines; class echoes with gestures for verbs.
• Sequence & Retell: arrange 4 pictures; retell in 2–3 sentences.
• Word basket: pick a card; say first sound + full word.

Learning Centers (10–12 min rotations)

Model rules, set timers, rotate smoothly; keep materials ready at each tray.

• Phonics Tray: sort small objects by sh/ch/th; record 3 words.
• Writing Tray: copy 3 target words; write 1 short sentence.
• Math Tray: build numbers with tens/ones; 2 quick equations.
• Story Corner: sequence 4 cards; partner retell.

1. 6 min — Phonics warm-up + new sound
2. 6 min — Blend/segment + quick word sort
3. 6 min — Writing practice (3 words + 1 sentence)
4. 8 min — Math mini-lesson (tens/ones or add/sub)
5. 8 min — Centers (phonics, writing, math, story)
6. 6 min — Quick check + praise + tidy-up song
